On our trip to Toronto, our main objective was to go to Electric Island. We had been invited for the first event early, in June, but due to some unforeseen circumstances I was unable to attend that one. Someone had told me that the best way to get the full experience of the event, would be to go when it’s on the island–at its original venue–which was a problem for the first few events due to the flooding this year on Toronto Island. So it all worked out when I went to the final dates of Electric Island, since they were going to take place at their original location.

To get there we had the choice to either take the Ferry or a Boat Taxi. On your way there you can experience the beautiful view of Toronto’s skyline as the boat goes toward the island. I’m pretty sure a lot of people take it for granted as most of the attendees live in the city and have seen it numerous times. But as a visitor you get to see just how beautiful Toronto is in just one view. As we arrived to the island and start walking to the event, we could tell that the organization is on point, but we wouldn’t expect any less, because of the names that were involved.

The event had 2 stages, the main stage had a lineup of people like Sonny Fodera, Claude Vonstroke, Dusky, Dixon, Black Madonna just to name a few, all within a 2 day period. The second stage was much smaller, with a more intimate setting, with acts like Mall Grab, Soul Clap, My Favorite Robot and local acts like Sam Haze, Nitin, among others. The second stage was the most surprising one since it started off slow with a small audience but as the time went on it became a full-fledged party. This taught us that sometimes the smaller, more intimate places, packs a bigger punch, where you may have more fun than one would at a bigger stage with more well-known acts. This did not take from the main stage, since it was still loaded with good music and good vibes.

As far as the setup was concerned, it had everything you could think of, from various food trucks, bars and even a couple of fun, chill out zones where you can just hang out with your friends to take a little break from all that dancing. As we went on to day 2 of the event, it was pretty much the same deal as day 1, but unfortunately it was cut short due to thunder storms. Now to some people this would be bummer but as a promoter you have to make safety a number one priority, especially when you’re responsible for thousands of people.

But for the time it had lasted I was able to hear some great sets from Yotto and Mall Grab, which was pretty much on point musically, one had brought futuristic/progressive tracks while the other was mixing the old with the new. In the end Electric Island was a fun experience. Hopefully next year they are able to do all the events on the island, because I believe it really did make a difference in our experience of the event.
