Bangladesh Born, Toronto resident Saad Ayub is a new up and coming trance artist that is making a buzz in the scene. Already released tracks in famous labels like A State Of Trance and Ferry Corsten’s Flashover Recordings. Saad is making his name around the world. Now having a new single with vocalist Christina Novelli intitled “The Only One” that is out now, we were able to ask him a few questions about his career and future projects.

How did you get started in the electronic music world?
When I was only 17-18 I started to develop a true love for dance music. It was extremely underground in my
home country of Bangladesh at that time (it’s getting a little bit more acceptable now, though still pretty
underground), so I wanted to promote this beautiful sound and open people’s eyes to it. I started out as
promoter and event planner and got totally hooked into this world.

What inspired you to begin producing music?
Through promoting back home I got the chance to play a bunch of shows, which led to me being even more
hooked. I knew that making people smile and helping them let go of their daily lives was something I wanted to
do forever. When I moved to Toronto back in 2011, I wanted to continue to play, but you can only go so far
mixing other people’s music, especially in a new country where you don’t know anyone. I needed to make my
own music to establish myself. So I started to play with sounds, very slowly evolving (it’s a process…) and
eventually releasing my first track, St. Martin, about 2-3 years later.

What do you look for as a DJ when picking tracks?
The main thing for me is whether it will leave a lasting impression with my audience. I’m pretty picky because I
want my radio shows and live sets to be memorable. So that’s priority #1. Next to that I’m always looking for
sounds that stand out. Fresh and new, the kind of stuff that can inspire me with my own production.

What made you focus on trance music?
This is a great question, especially considering I got my start playing house and techno and was pretty hard
into those sounds. I spent some time in the hospital back in 2010 and needed something to new to listen to as I
recovered. I came across Armin’s ASOT 2010 and instantly got sucked into it. The track that really got me is
actually from Toronto’s own Arnej, called The Strings That Bind Us.

Trance is pretty popular worldwide, especially in Europe. How do you see the reception in USA and
Canada?
In the US it seems to be gaining some major traction, especially in certain pockets like NYC and Southern
California. And I’d say it’s actually bigger in USA than in Canada. Like any genre there are ups and downs –
Canada had its peak for trance, but it has definitely died down in the last year or so. But I think it’s due for its
glorious return in the scene here, especially as promoters have been curating some great line-ups in more
intimate settings and moving away from mainstream EDM shows.

Talk about your new single with Christina Novelli.
It’s a super personal track, and I knew Christina would kill it. Her voice is perfect for the mood. When I wrote
the initial demo, I was going through a rough time with someone I really cared about. I needed to vent my
feelings through music – music is my therapy. I approached Christina with the story behind it and what she
wrote couldn’t have been more perfect. I literally loved it the moment I heard it. I’m really proud of the result,
and am working on a bit of a follow-up already (more on that to come ;)).

What are your future projects?
I have a couple tracks lined up to close out 2017 with – including an official remix for one of my biggest
inspirations (can’t wait to share details!!). For next year, I’ve already started working on a few tracks and lining
up some great vocal collaborations. Will likely release singles every other month or so – or maybe even an
album – we shall see. But expect lots of vocal collaborations 
