Whether you see it or not House music and Hip hop are very similar: They’r are both creations of African American people in big cities in the United States, they sampled disco records in their beginnings, and they both came from the underground culture in urban neighborhoods. So it was only a matter of time when both distant relatives got together and hung out to create hip house music. This sub-genre has had its highs and lows and mainstream success but recently there has been a new wave that its bringing it back to the basics.

Beginnings

In the 80s a Chicago dj by the name of Fast Eddie released a record call “Yo Yo Get Funky” that got played in the radio stations across the city from there people like Beatmasters Vitamin-C and 2 in a room started releasing records as well. But it wasn’t till a New York named Dj Todd Terry Collaborated with The Jungle Brothers and released the Hood Party Anthem “Ill House You” in 1988 that broke the ground into the charts.

After that Mc’s like Queen Latifah, 2 and Big Daddy Kane with the help of his Dj Mister Cee created their own House Anthems and from there in every Hood in America House Music was the new Disco.

90s and 2000s

As hip house started to rise and expanded, it landed in Europe and became more commercial. Groups like 2 Unlimited, Snap!,Technotronic and C+C Music factory made it more pop oriented with catchy hooks, high energy beats, synths sounds and very high pitch vocals instead of just plain rapping and bass. When hip house left the underground warehouses and rooftop parties and made into the clubs and commercial radio the essence of it started to fade away.

Technotronic – Pump Up The Jam

By the early 2000s it was just electro pop with rappers on it. (Good Job David Guetta and LMFAO). Some underground tracks did make some noise like “Weak become Heroes” from The Streets, “Da Bumb” by Mr V among some other tracks that stayed relevant in the UK house scene.

Current state and Hip Latin House

In Recent years hip house is coming back to its roots from people like Azelia Banks, Destructo, Herve among others but the one that artist actually brought the sound back into the clubs and the peoples attention.

Other Artist like Pitbull (YES Pitbull) have made a fusion of Latin House with Hip hop making now part of the genre. Now this mix is not new since the first one to make Hip Latin House with was Puerto Rican Mc Vico-C in 1991 with “Yogurt” Making him the father of Hip Latin House.

Overall hip house may never been as successful or as prominent in the new waves of electronic music but i has showed us that it has been around and evolve and probably be here forever as long as there is djs and mc’s.
