Formed in 1993, Red Snapper (featuring Ali Friend on double bass, Richard Thair on drums and David Ayers on guitar) soon made an impression on the musical landscape with release of their debut 1996 album ‘Prince Blimey’ on Warp Records. Producing a unique combination of traditional jazz instrumentation and contemporary electronica, the band would go on to release 2 more albums for Warp, ‘Making Bones’ and ‘Our Aim is To Satisfy Red Snapper’ and make a name for themselves as one of the period’s best live acts. At a time when ‘dance’ acts rarely, if at all, played live Red Snapper’s ferocious performances would set the bar for years to come.
