In addition to their live shows, Diemetic has been hard at work producing Bass House garnering support from Bass Kleph, TheFatRat, The Chainsmokers, The Boorkids, and Tetrix Bass. Diemetic has released a three track EP on Beatport through Vacation Records titled “Natural Sweetner” which has remained on the label’s top 10 chart since its release. We recently ask them a few question about their journey as a group and future project.

How you guys became a duo?
That’s a great question actually! Haha Diemetic forming is actually due to Shambala 2015, a good friend of mine and Neon Steve. Long story short, Neon Steve’s set that year actually gave me the motivation to stop screwing around and get serious with music. After I got back to Newfoundland I attended a local producer meet up and set up a collaboration project between myself and Ryan on an Ill.Gates contest. We just clicked and haven’t stopped grinding.

What motivate you to start doing music?
For as long as I remember I’ve always been involved with making music. I took piano lessons in like grade 3/4 and played 4-5 instruments in the school band from grade 6-12. Ryan also has classical training and is a pretty decent drummer too! As far as first making electronic music though, I started on a cracked copy of FL7 or 8 back in 2006 because a kid in my class was doing it and it just seemed like a really cool thing to try out.

Do you guys enjoy more playing or producing?
It’s hard to say if I enjoy producing or playing live shows more just because they’re rewarding in really different ways. That “ah-ha” moment when a new technique finally just clicks or you find a perfect sound is a really unique feeling, but on the flip side seeing the crowd go absolutely insane to a track you’ve put hours and hours of work into is probably the best feeling there is. I think to be a successful producer/DJ in the industry today you really need to learn to find enjoyment in both the slow gritty process of creating a song as well as the live aspect.

Who are your biggest influences in electronic music?
We’re constantly being inspired by so many artists, but some of our big influences right now are coming from Eff That, Why So Serious, Rico Act, Pigeon Hole and of course guys like Matroda and Ephwurd too.

What has been your best gig so far?
Our best gig so far is a tie between Future Forest this year and Ryan going on tour as the DJ for Merkules. There’s also a few possible shows coming up this fall/winter that could be huge for us, but they’re not set in stone right now so I can’t say anything more about them.

How is the electronic scene in Newfoundland?
The Newfoundland music scene is only now just starting to develop a small but devoted underground electronic fanbase. Most people just think George Street which for the exception of two or three clubs, exclusively plays top 40/top 40 remixes. But in the past 4 years you have festivals focusing on the underground starting to pop up like Neon Satori’s Summer Soulstice and Lunaza festivals, and this year the debut of a one night rave called Electric Fields.

How do you see the Scene in Atlantic Canada as a whole?
Over the course of the summer I’ve been fortunate enough to tour across Atlantic Canada and get a first hand look at the scene from an artists point of view, and I’ve gotta say the people and event staff I’ve met have been nothing short of amazing. Overall I’d say that while the crowds might be smaller than the west coast it’s definitely quality over quantity, and we’ve yet to see a crowd not give it 100{ab62426eb0232180cc22cdea6e38499fd4fb33de0e0e4b0c144365b46cb3014c}.

What are your future projects?
We’re actually about to release a brand new song, so keep your eyes and ears open for that. But other than that our goal moving forward is to continue improving our production skills and to start the process for next summer looking out westward to Montreal and BC for shows in addition to Atlantic Canada.
