Damian Jacuk better known as D-Unity is one of the world’s most prolific and acclaimed producers in the electronic music dance scene. Based out of Toronto he tours and produces consistently releasing tracks for labels like Intec or on his own imprint Unity Records. We recently asked him a few questions about his beginnings, the state of techno and future projects.

How did you started djing and producing?
I actually started with production first in high school. Mainly playing around with production software which later turned into my passion. The natural progression of Djing followed right after.

What were your main musical influences?
In regards to techno, Of course it would have to be Carl Cox. I always liked drums and very organic feel of music. Earlier I was on a more heavy metal path which of course my parents hated hahaha…

You had many releases including some on your own label. So far what are the tracks that
You are most proud of?
Some of my biggest tracks would have to be “Our House” it was one of the earlier releases from my label Unity records that really put the label on a global map.
Later on many other tracks followed like “Sounds Good” & “Chain Reaction” but “Our house” really came out with a bang few years back.

How do you manage to tour, produce records and run a label consistently?
The idea is to produce ahead of time to make sure you got everything ready while touring.
I am not a fan of producing on the road, therefore I usually have releases from my label set 3 months ahead of time to make sure everything is running smoothly.

You’re kind of in the front of Canadian Techno. How do you see the techno scene in Canada?
The Canadian techno Scene is solid but I feel it still needs to pick up in other areas of Canada like the West coast. Toronto always had a great scene with international underground artists and great clubs rocking it out every weekend.

As a label owner what do you look for when releasing a track from other artist?
First and foremost , I have to make sure that it is the Unity records sound.
I am bit picky when it comes to my label and I guess it’s a good thing. I always have to make sure that the true sound of the label is kept with each release while aiming for the hottest techno producers in the scene.

What are your future projects?
Currently finishing a remix for Fatima Haji, Hollen, Metodi Hristov all coming out on Unity Records in the near future.
I also just had a release with my friend Matt Sassari on Carl Cox’s label “Intec” which has been gaining massive support from Carl and other Djs around the globe.
