White light is usually a combination of lights of different wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum. In this case this we are talking about a young Canadian producer that also is a combination of sounds in the electronic scene. Getting educated to produce music and also being an entrepeneur Brandon Linkewich (White Light) Is something fresh that the Canadian electronic scene is catching up to. We recently ask him a couple of questions to know more about him.

Where does the name White Light come from?

It’s kind of a funny story where the name came from. Back when I was 13 and in middle
school, I was starting to DJ and I had 2-3 different DJ names that I was experimenting
with, but none of them felt quite right. So, one day while walking down the hallway of
my middle school the name ‘White Light’ just randomly popped into my head, and I
LOVED IT! Without even knowing the true meaning behind White Light, I built my
brand and DJ company, while always wearing white. It was only later when I was 18-19 I
realized the true definition of White Light.

How do you define your production and live style?

My production style is constantly evolving, but my true foundations are pop music with
influences from bounce, big room, and 80's. These styles seem to always come through
whenever I am producing new music. As for my live style, I like to take the crowd on a
journey. Normally my sets are super high energy, I like to play a lot of old school
mashups that everyone can sing along to, and also play songs that no body has heard of,
to catch them by surprise. Overall, anytime you see me play live, expect something
unique.

What’s the scene like in West Coast Canada?

The scene out here in the West is very unique, with most people producing a lot of bass
and house music. Over is BC, there are tons of music festivals that feature very
underground artists. As for Calgary’s scene, there is a ton of country music influence.
Is it hard to make a statement or footprint as a DJ/producer in Canada?
I think so yes, I have been working my butt off since I was 14 trying to expand and grow
my brand, and still I feel like I have lots of work to do. However, I think with the right
connections, people in your circle, and overall vision for your music, eventually things
will pan out if you work hard!

Talk to us about your new single?

Sure! My new single ‘Ghost’ features an amazing friend and vocalist Rebecca (Avelyn)
who also resides here in Calgary. The song featured her unique vocals, along with an 80’s
synth pop production. The way this record started was Rebecca sent me an email with a
very rough acapella of ‘Ghost.’ She said ‘Hey my friend of a friend knows you, I liked
your other songs, maybe we can work on this one?’ and the rest is history. We actually
recorded the vocals in my moms house, in my little studio and it took about 8 months to
complete.

What are your Future Projects?

I have so many on the go right now, my next single ‘Memories’ comes out in August,
then I have one more single dropping in September, along with a remix of Kygo’s
‘Stargazing.’ I also have 3 more projects that we are finishing up on top of these.
